Destination Guide

Hawaii Cruises

Four islands, one suitcase, and no inter-island flights to coordinate.

Best time to sail

Year-round. Winter brings humpback whales from December through April and the biggest North Shore surf. Spring and fall are the value windows. Weather barely changes - this is one of the few destinations where timing is about crowds and price, not climate.

Departure ports

Honolulu for inter-island sailings, or Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Seattle for round-trips

Typical length

7 nights inter-island, or 14 to 18 nights round-trip from the mainland

Choosing your itinerary

Inter-island (NCL Pride of America)

The only ship permitted to sail Hawaii-only round-trip from Honolulu. Seven nights, four islands, overnight stays in Maui and Kauai, and no sea days wasted crossing the Pacific.

Round-trip from the West Coast

Two weeks or more, with four or five sea days in each direction. Much cheaper per day and no airfare - but you need the time.

Don't miss

  • Overnight in Maui, so you can actually drive the Road to Hana
  • Kauai's Na Pali Coast from the water
  • Volcanoes National Park from Hilo
  • Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial
  • Humpback whales between the islands, December through April
